Taste of Nations!
Last week, the Student Leadership Group held a "Taste of Nations" event, where we served food from countries as diverse as Mexico, India, the Ukraine and Italy. We raised $369.20, all of which was donated to Free the Children, an organization devoted to helping children overseas and encouraging Canadian and American children to do their part. Thank you to all of the members of Student Leadership who helped organize the lunch, and to everyone who bought tickets to participate in this event!

The Aftermath- One Night Out
The first edition of One Night Out was a huge success; we raised $ 150.00, and all this money will be donated to Free the Children. During the event, 32 students came to learn about the challenges and difficulties of homelessness. Next year we hope for even more! During the event, we had a Quest for Survival, which was a blast! Everyone was divided into groups, who took turns rotating around different stations. The stations consisted of:
- An obstacle course, with feet or hands tied together (to simulate physical disabilities that are often suffered by homeless people);
- A shelter station, in which the groups had to construct safe shelters that could resist the elements (to show what some homeless people go through to feel safe during the night);
- The clothing station, where kids collaborated and created clothing that could keep you warm and dry (to simulate the difficulties of keeping warm and dry when it's raining);
- The scavenging station, which consisted of searching through a box filled with shredded paper, to find special coloured straws (this simulated searching a garbage can to find things to survive);
- The food and water station, where kids had to devise six ways of retrieving food and water as a homeless person, without breaking the law (which simulates exactly what is said).
After this, we made skits about the stories of homeless people, and everyone had a great time watching the unique stories everyone had to tell.
Even though there were some complications, everyone had a great sleep and loved the event! We hope everyone will come again next year, and that One Night Out will once again be a huge success!
Sincerely,
The One Night Out Team
P.S. Photos of the event to follow! ;)
